The interest and participation in metaverses has not cooled down as the pandemic has evolved an endemic. Big tech companies are continuously developing commercial services and technology bases, and micro metaverses specialized in industries are also accelerating development and commercial services in respective fields.
However, since the majority of metaverses still focus on game or exist as a social-based metaverse, the current representative revenue generation methods are limited to the sale of paid items. Nevertheless, it is expected to expand to revenue models linked to real-world services as business models expand in the future.
In domestic market, various business entities such as telecommunications, big tech, entertainment, and games companies are entering the metaverse market, and most of them are building their own virtual space-based platforms and implementing services according to the characteristics of their services or business purposes. However, analyzing the nature of the platform in addition to the characteristics of individual services, it can be said that none of the platforms are operating as an ecosystem that can be configured through the initiative of various business entities other than the platform service provider.
